Training

There are two training roles:
  • Participate in training sessions as a handler. This helps those who are fostering more than one dog. They can bring more dogs and volunteers assist as handlers following the instructions of the trainer.
  • If you have experience training dogs and can organize and lead training events, we welcome your assistance.

Locations:

  • La Paz, BCS, Mexico

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend training sessions each Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am
  • Handle one or more dogs through the training course
  • Follow instructions of trainer leading the exercise
  • Use appropriate correction techniques and positive reinforcement

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to support the Baja Dogs La Paz mission
  • Punctuality
  • Basic understand of dog behavior and use of positive reinforcement techniques
  • Ability to handle dogs on leash with other dogs, people, and children around
Time Commitment:
  • 1 hour per week
Key Responsibilities:
  • Consult with rescatistas to discuss behavioral concerns and training needs.
  • Identify additional behavioral concerns and communicate them to rescatistas.
  • Develop suitable training plans for dogs and document their progress.
  • Teach dogs to obey basic commands using various training techniques that are best suited to each dog’s personality and attributes.
  • Implement appropriate training programs to address and resolve problem areas, including aggression, separation anxiety, hyperactivity, and biting.
  • Ensure that the training areas are clean and tidy.
  • Teach rescatistas appropriate training methods to enforce and maintain behaviors and skills learned by their dogs during training sessions.
  • Provide training tools such as YouTube videos and other examples for specific problem areas.

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to support the Baja Dogs La Paz mission
  • Cell phone, charged, with Whatsapp for communication
  • Punctuality
  • Sound knowledge of dog training techniques as well as animal behavior and body language.
  • Proven experience working as a Dog Trainer.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong dog handling skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A love for dogs.
  • Patient and enthusiastic.
Time Commitment:
  • 4 hours per week or more as desired
